Getting here

High in the Alps, but easier to reach than you might think.

Where we are

Baita Zelda is at Via Dala Corta 112, 23041 Trepalle, Livigno (SO), Italy – in the village of Trepalle, on the main road between Livigno and the Foscagno pass, at over 2,000 metres.

By car

There are three roads into Livigno:

  • From Italy (Bormio): the SS301 over the Foscagno pass, open all year. Trepalle is the first village you reach after the pass, before you drop down into Livigno.
  • From Switzerland (Zernez / Ofen pass): the Munt la Schera tunnel. It is a single-lane tunnel with alternating traffic and a toll, run by Engadiner Kraftwerke – check the opening times before you travel, and buy your toll ticket online at tunnelticket.ch. Vehicles over 3.60 m high cannot use it.
  • From Switzerland (Bernina pass): the Forcola di Livigno, closed in winter.

Winter tyres or snow chains are compulsory on the mountain roads in winter. Livigno is duty-free, so fill up with fuel here.

Finding Baita Zelda in Trepalle

Coming from Livigno or Switzerland: follow the signs for SS301 Bormio. After Passo d'Eira, at the top of the climb, look out for the large white parish church about 1.5 km further on. Turn left immediately after the petrol station on the left, then sharp right – Baita Zelda is 50 m on the right.

Coming from Bormio and Italy: as you enter Trepalle, pass the Negozio 2000 shop on the left and then the Cooperativa supermarket on the right. Turn right 20 m after the supermarket, towards the church, then sharp right – Baita Zelda is 50 m on the right.

Gembro apartment, Teola

Our Gembro apartment is not in Trepalle but in Teola, a quiet hamlet on the sunny side of the Livigno valley, a few minutes from the town centre.

By air

The nearest airports are all around 3 to 4 hours away by car:

  • Milan Bergamo (BGY) – low-cost flights from across Europe
  • Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Milan Linate (LIN)
  • Zurich (ZRH) – intercontinental flights, with trains towards the Engadin
  • Innsbruck (INN)

Hiring a car at the airport gives you the most freedom once you are here.

By train and bus

  • Via Switzerland: take the train to Zernez, then the bus through the Munt la Schera tunnel to Livigno. Timetables are on sbb.ch.
  • Via Italy: take the train from Milan to Tirano (trenord.it), then the bus to Livigno via Bormio.
